2. What is your company's main theme for KOREA OCEAN EXPO, and which core capabilities or technologies would you like to highlight the most?

Our main theme at the Korea Ocean Expo centers on equipping coast guards, navies, and government agencies with reliable, high-performance marine solutions that enable rapid and effective response, even under the most demanding conditions. Since our continued participation in this exhibition hosted by the Korea Coast Guard, we have used this platform to strengthen long-standing partnerships, showcase mission-ready technologies, and engage closely with key stakeholders across the maritime security community.

A key focus is highlighting our advanced propulsion and automation capabilities under the mtu portfolio. Our solutions are engineered to meet the complex operational requirements of coast guard and government fleets, combining high power density, reliability, and efficiency with integrated system design. This includes complete propulsion packages and intelligent ship automation technologies that enhance vessel control, monitoring, and overall mission readiness.

3. Please introduce your products used by the Korea Coast Guard or government agencies, or those under development or intended for supply.

The collaboration between the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) and Rolls-Royce represents a long-standing and successful partnership focused on advancing maritime security through reliable and high-performance propulsion solutions.

A key example is the modernization of the Taegeuk-class patrol vessels, including recently commissioned units such as hull numbers 525 and 526. These 500-ton vessels are equipped with Rolls-Royce’s mtu 16V 4000 M90 and 12V 1163 TB93 diesel engines, combined with waterjet propulsion systems, enabling speeds of up to 35 knots. They also incorporate the mtu Callosum automation system, which provides integrated control of propulsion and onboard power management.

More broadly, the KCG operates approximately 650 mtu engines across its fleet, ranging from 300-ton to 3,000-ton class vessels. This includes offshore patrol vessels utilizing CODAD configurations with mtu 20V 1163 engines, demonstrating the scalability of the solutions across different mission profiles.

In addition, recent developments include the integration of advanced automation and ongoing exploration of hybrid propulsion technologies to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.

The continued selection of Rolls-Royce’s mtu propulsion solutions by the KCG is driven by three primary factors: proven reliability and mission readiness, a high power-to-weight ratio enabling high-speed operations, and compliance with IMO Tier II emissions standards, supporting environmental objectives.

4. What differentiates your company as a trusted partner for coast guard and naval operations worldwide?

Our strength lies in delivering fully integrated, mission-ready solutions built on three key pillars.

First, we leverage cutting-edge technology through our mtu portfolio, offering advanced propulsion systems, hybrid capabilities, and intelligent automation that enhance performance, efficiency, and operational control.

Second, we take full system responsibility—providing not just individual components, but complete naval propulsion and power solutions. From engines and gearboxes to automation and onboard energy management, every element is engineered to work seamlessly together, ensuring optimal performance and reliability in demanding environments.

Finally, our global support network ensures customers receive comprehensive service and lifecycle support wherever they operate. This worldwide presence enables rapid response, maintenance, and long-term partnership—critical for coast guard and government missions that depend on continuous readiness.
